  2. Ceralto Castle

It is commonly known that the name Ceralto recalls the words Cereris altus or altior, indicating Ceres the Roman goddess of agriculture. However, considering its geographic position and the high presence of oaks and Turkey oaks (in Latin, Quercus Cerrus), it is possible to say that the name derives from its wildlife. The site of battles between the towns of Todi and Perugia, Ceralto was destroyed in a battle in 1311. After alternate periods under the dominion of Perugia and Todi, the Castle remained for a long period under the rule of the latter. Bearing witness to this fact, the Todi emblem can still be seen above the gate of the castle. Its unusual location, the union between the articulation of the site and its architecture and the absolute quietness of the place make it an ‘oasis of history'.
